Life-cycle assessment was locked inside a complex Excel screening tool that only a specialist could operate. To sell LCA as a product, Målbar needed that method to become a web application a furniture manufacturer could use themselves — while still following the EU Product Environmental Footprint rules exactly.
The approach
Built from the ground up: database, backend, calculation engine, queues, admin platform and front end. The calculation engine was the hard part — the EU PEF rules have to be applied faithfully and the results have to be reproducible and explainable, because customers are putting these numbers into public product documentation.
